Press Release: Ms. Suzane Sylvester Elected Chairperson of YUNA Tanzania
Ms. Suzane Sylvester has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Youth of United Nations Association (YUNA) Tanzania during the Extraordinary General Meeting on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Her journey, marked by a strong commitment to youth activism and leadership, is nothing short of inspirational.
Ms. Suzane’s involvement with YUNA began during her Lower Secondary Education at Marian Girls’ Secondary School, where she participated in the United Nations Clubs Network Tanzania (UNCTN). Continuing her academic journey at the University of Dodoma (UDOM) in 2017, she joined the YUNA chapter (UNC) at UDOM in 2018, initiating a remarkable path of leadership.
In April 2019, Ms. Suzane attended the Tanzania International Model United Nations (TIMUN) for the first time, representing the Republic of Burundi. The event proved transformative, exposing her to a network of active youth addressing global challenges through UN-guided debates. Subsequently, she became an active member of YUNA Tanzania, contributing to various programs, including World Tourism Day 2019.
Ms. Suzane’s commitment continued with her participation in TIMUN 2020 and her pivotal role in TIMUN 2021 as the Assistant Head of Substantive and Drafter of Caucus One. Her leadership journey reached new heights in 2022 when she was appointed as the Head of Substantive Department and Head of Drafters in TIMUN 2022.
In January 2023, Ms. Suzane was appointed as the National Coordinator of TIMUN 2023 by the Executive Committee of YUNA Tanzania, reflecting her dedication and leadership within the organization.
Ms. Suzane Sylvester’s leadership qualities extend beyond YUNA Tanzania. Her participation in the prestigious “Nasser Fellowship” for International Leadership in June 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, and her recognition in the Mwalimu Nyerere Pan African Young Leaders Fellowship (November 2022) and the African United Nations Youth Fellowship (March 2023) showcase her global impact.
Throughout her years of volunteering, Ms. Suzane has consistently demonstrated values of commitment, reliability, strong leadership, integrity, transparency, accountability, fairness, and a profound passion for her work.
Her election as Chairperson signifies a new chapter for YUNA Tanzania under Ms. Suzane Sylvester’s inspiring leadership.
